The ICON

Christ of the Andes

Situated on the border between Argentina and Chile, it is a monument of peace which was unveiled in the year 1904. Christ the Redeemer of the Andes is located at an altitude of 3,832 m above sea level in the Andes mountain range. The statue depicts Lord Christ holding on to a cross in his left hand. The nearest township to the statue is Uspallata in Argentina which is some miles away. There is only one route to reach this attraction which can be used by tourists. One can visit the statue only in the summer season as during winters, the road gets completely blocked. The temperature of as low as -30º C has been recorded here.
